Kinja'd!!!

Dat bodyroll tho.

I believe that asshole Audi drivers will emigrate to Kia Stingers and Hyundai N30s.

It already happened with Kia Sportage SUVs that come from the factory with seven years of warranty and engines just as powerful as Audi’s Q3. Maybe after years of Germanic maintenance prices they are ready to let go of EDM and embrace KDM culture. So is probably true of the Stinger.

In a sense Audi has always been playing catch up to BMW and Mercedes, from the very beginning Audi has been seen as a rebadged VW product where BMW and Mercedes never had to put up with that and also had years and years of heritage and history in motorsport that Audi just couldn’t combat with.

Kinja'd!!!

For many years Audi was the underdog that had to prove its worth. But now it’s Hyundai’s turn with the Stinger and the N30. These cars suffer from typical turbocharged over-eagerness, and a really, really good set of highbeams that will be used to scare people off the fast lane, and in some cases a good amount of reported understeer. But as a good owner I am going ahead and denying my car ever fucking oversteered you biased news media. (Hint: it does just don’t say it over at Stingerforums.)

I can tell some will emigrate because of how the throttle and shiftpoints are tuned, you have comfort and eco; that basically kill the engine, and sport mode; which is really good at hiding the oodles of turbo lag this engine has. Sport mode is there when you want to be a true dick and plow through the fast lane.

These cars are also granted the pseudo anonymity Audi’s enjoyed for many years. They just don’t look like flashy cars. Most of them had multitronic CVTs and are front wheel drive! How could the asshole burning up their tires be in an Audi? Well. Putting it mildly: Welcome to RennSport.

Kia’s are still seen as competition to Camrys with slow, economy based tuning, and front wheel drive. But oh, how did that change with the addition of twin turbo chargers to the Lambda II or the 270hp N engine? or the LSDs?

I can see it coming.... real fast, like that asshole in a Q7 flashing their highbeams in the middle lane.

I do not know a single person who would voluntarily go from an Audi to a Kia. The one person I know with a Stinger went from a Camry, they seem more like an entry level luxury car.

Audi has also been on the level of BMW and Mercedes for years.

Havent seen one in SF yet, plenty of A holes in Teslas... There are so many Porsches from 911s to Macans that I anticipate Porsche will steal Teslas business. I would much rather have an electric Porsche than a Tesla. But not many Kia here at all, Hyundais here and there with SUVs. Honda Acura and Toyota Lexus are king.

Nah, part of the reason you buy a car is the badge. Even if the Kia is a better car, the Audi has a better badge.

Exactly, and as Kia moves upmarket,I bet it will take it’s spot.

But when the whole asshole audi driver stuff began, did audi have badge as valuable as BMW or MB?

Wow. This is the first time I’ve heard of the i40. I knew about the i20/Accent and i30/Elantra twins, but I didn’t know it went all the way up. Is there a market where the Azera is the i50?

Nah, I think the Stinger will be the natural upgrade for Nissan drivers. Just as assholish, but I don’t see Audi drivers going to KIA since from what I’ve heard, the KIA doesn’t cut it luxury wise with the Germans.

Kia has to move an awfully long goddamn way before it’s an Audi competitor. Ref: the complete failure that is the K900.

I highly doubt that, they still make way more crappy cars than they do nice ones. Maybe they’ll be like Toyota or Honda but they aren’t anywhere near as upmarket as the Germans.

Nissan Maxima to Kia Stinger to Audi something sounds like a reasonable progression.

I think it’s mostly US Kia dealers are horrible and the fact that Audi is a much more upscale brand in the US than in the rest of the world. (Here Audi is compared to Volvo more than to BMW and Mercedes)

Kia and Nissan compete here for “most shady lending practices”. I want to like their cars but their dealers are all such shady dipshits.

I still think about Kia’s “buy the minivan get the Rio free” promotion, and that was 15-16 years ago. I feel they have a long way to go before they encroach on upscale brands

But Audi really doesn’t have the greatest badge. Their SUVs/CUVs are slow and the people that buy them get deeply butt-hurt when they realize it.

If Hyundai and Kia could shake off the “cheap econobox” stereotype they have here, they might be able to pull it off. Audi had to trudge along for almost 20 years to shake their reputation for unintended acceleration that they gained with the Audi 100/5000. They were the first long before Toyota and Lexus became known for it.

Now that people expect Audiholes and most BMWs drive like old Toyota Camrys (so their drivers are more like traditional MB buyers, except they somehow think their badge has some cachet).

When you sell things like the S8, yes. I always remember them as a prestige brand.

Where I’ve lived the ultimate is Mitsubishi, followed by Chrysler, then Nissan. Kia isn’t really on the radar for bad lending anymore (they may have been back when they still made shitty cars). The buying experience as far as I’ve seen was similar to that of domestic manufacturers...

In the U.K. the a-hole go from cheap boyracer under powered small hatch you can lower and add a load of crap to make it look faster, they then go for an Audi A4 saloon where the a-hole develops into a BMW 3 Series owner, sometimes starting out as a mid to high spec saloon but often a cheap low spec Coupe, then the work up to something more powerful then the pinnacle is the M3 Coupe.

They also may drive a ‘white van’ for work, learning how to get right up to your rear bumper filling the whole of the rear view mirror.

It’s a natural progression.

Honestly, I see it all the time, it’s comical.

Because the whole Audi 5000 was before my time, I don’t associate Audi with that. I’m aware of it, but it’s not the first thing that comes to mind. I view Audi as a prestige brand, and since prestige is about opinion, that matters.

Maybe ask people in 20 years about Kia/Hyundai, and they might have a differnt perspective, but for now they’re still remembered for making shitty little cars. My experience with them hasn’t changed my opinion. The Stinger might be an alright car, but it’s wearing a Kia badge.

They don’t sell things like that here in the States, so it doesn’t sully their brand like it might elsewhere.
